ConServ 200 FLEXIBLE EPOXY PATCH is a non-structural epoxy system for filling cavities, voids and surface imperfections in wood. The patching filler has the consistency of a hard rubber ball. ConServ 200 is flexible enough to withstand the ongoing expansion and contraction of the wood. It is easily tooled, carved, planed, drilled and sanded. It will even accept nails and screw fasteners and can be painted or stained. This material is often used on window and door elements, railings and balustrades, trim and siding, logs and timbers and ornamental components. View samples of Flexible Epoxy Patch 200, installed.

WOOD PREPARATION involves removing most of the loose and soft decay down to good
wood prior to applying the epoxy consolidant. Wood to be consolidated
should be clean and dry with
a moisture content of below 20%. Areas to be filled
with Epoxy Patch 200
should be primed using
ConServ 100 consolidant so the patch adheres to stabilized wood. MIXING EPOXY is easily done by pouring the contents of bottle B (curing agent) into container A (epoxy resin). Blend thoroughly for three minutes by hand with a thin stick or by using a power mixer. Quickly blend in the entire contents of bag C (brown filler) by hand. Add component D (white thickener) as needed to achieve the desired working consistency for your application. If you intend to use less than a full container, break down components A and B into sets of equal parts and return A into metal containers and B into plastic bottles for storage and mixing. Filler component C should be broken down into a set of approximately equal parts. Thickener component D can be left as one part and used as needed with each batch. Or, combine an exact ratio of 2.75 parts of Resin A to 1 part Curing agent B by volume.
CAUTION: Mixed epoxy will generate considerable heat in 5 to
10 minutes. To prevent early curing divide mixed material into smaller
quantities and use immediately and/or put can on ice.
Resin (A) may crystallize in cool temperatures
causing a white waxy substance to form on the bottom of
the can. This condition does not in any way alter or inhibit
the effectiveness of your epoxy. Dissolve by warming
with a heat gun, hair dryer, or in a double boiler and mix gently
until the material is clear. Do not
overheat.
Allow epoxy to regain normal room temperature
before using.
APPLYING THE PATCH should be done
while temperatures range from 50º-90º F. If possible, a
void applying epoxy in direct sunlight or rain.
Preferably, a wet on wet application over the 100 Consolidant is ideal for
the best chemical bond, but the patch can also be applied after the
consolidant has cured. The ConServ Mini Hawk 900-MH is a convenient
way to hold the epoxy patch during application. Plastic putty knives
are the easiest tool for applying the epoxy. Two sizes of ConServ
empty caulk tubes are available for applying the patch in specific
applications. Fill large voids (over 1" thick) in
layers allowing a day to cure between applications. Protect treated areas using poly wrapped
or tented over work to keep materials warm and dry until epoxy
has set. ConServ Flexible Epoxy Patch 200 [ Instructions | Technical Data | Specifications | M.S.D.S. ]
